Naniwa

Naniwa Specialty Combination Waterstone 3000/8000 Grit

Naniwa Japanese waterstones are hands down one of the best stones for sharpening a Straight Razor, if not the best. They are fast cutters, yet have a butter smooth feedback very similar to a Natural stone.  Unlike most other brands these do not need to be soaked before use, just spray some water on the surface and start sharpening.  We do not recommend these stones for knives, as they are softer than most stones due to the binder they use. Unless you use a knife angle guide on the spine to prevent the edge from digging into the stone, which is not a concern with a straight razor.

Note from Phil:  Some may remember that very short time when we sold Glass Shaptons.  I am asked every so often why we do not sell them.  The list is too long to write here, but know that cracking stones, wasn't our biggest issue.  Basically they were a gimmick (in my eyes), and one that I honestly cannot understand why they are still on the market.  Ceramic has it's place in the sharpening stone world, but not as a Full baked Ceramic stone.  It is great for longevity and cheap, but that is mostly it.  Naniwa uses Ceramic in their stones like many others, but it is added to the matrix, and use binders that compliment the sharpening process. It's a very fine line to get a good quality finished product that works.   Luckily for us, we did not sell many and refunded every sale.  Now this does not mean they may not be good for axe's.....

Great Combination

I purchased this combination stone following many of the comments and recommendations noted by Phil.

No need to look any further, excellent stone for taking out that chipped edge and giving it a new one.

Excellent value, excellent combination and excellent edge.

Highly recommend.

Very happy with this combo. Amazing cutting power and mirror finish in the 8K side. Too bad it's been discontinued.

This is my first Naniwa waterstone.Couldn't be happier with it.
I use it primarily for setting the bevel on my razor and it does a beautiful job.I am probably gonna need another 12K to hone it,but that's another story.Sadly, it has been discontinued.Very fast delivery and carefully bubble wrapped. Thanks Phil.

Very happy with this stone, was able to take a razor with a small ding in it and set the bevel on the 3k side. I then did 40 laps of the 8k side, stroped it and then went and shaved with it. This is the
