Boker Edelweiss 5/8 Straight Razor Special Edition
The illustrious Edelweiss Straight Razor line has already been a firm component of the historic Boker Straight Razor production since the 1920s. Even today, a few lucky collectors still have absolutely like-new Straight Razors from this line; immaculate works of art from a time long since passed. The elaborately decorated Edelweiss lettering, done in nickel silver inlay, is inserted in painstaking manual labor into the high-quality plastic handle with an ivory look. In combination with the original blade etching on the partially polished blade, this razor shows off its own unique character with its elegant design. Analogous to the historic models, the handle area of the blade is only serrated on the top, while the third decorative stud gives the handle additional stability and, of course, corresponds to the original of the historic line. The blade is ground extra hollow with ridge. Like with all Straight Razors from the Boker knife manufacture, the blade is ground extremely thin (until it makes just the right sound), thus ensuring an always gentle and clean shave. Each razor includes the classic blade stamp, a certificate of authenticity, and historic packaging.
The Special Edition catches your eye not only with the distinct Spanish Point, but also with the incredibly crafted blade, all of which having been partially refined with 24-carat gold. The completely blade back and delicately worked details of the historic etching were gilded and raised this knife to a level hereto unknown. The 5/8" blade made from the best Solingen Straight Razor steel (special edge retention, non stainless) carries the traditional Spanish Point and is, of course, ground especially thin.
Like any other razor sold by The Classic Edge Shaving Store, this razor is professionally honed to "shave ready" by Phil. This $25 Value is our way of showing you that we are willing to take our Customer Service to the next level. After all, nothing is worse than buying a Straight Razor as a gift for a loved one, only for them to open the box and realize that they now have to send it away to be sharpened before they can use it. Also included is a free follow up honing that can be used once your razor is in need of a fresh edge.
Please allow a minimum of at least 2-3 business days for us to prepare your Straight Razor, as this is not a product that you buy just anywhere. It needs special attention to detail as it will come in contact with your skin, and must be sanitized and polished before being coated with Renaissance Wax. This careful and considerate attention to each razor is the difference between a shaving store that will rush your razor out the next morning, and our own Artisan-owned shaving store that is nothing less than extreme when it comes to making their clients 100% satisfied. It's our job to ensure that your experience is perfect. We cannot thank you enough for visiting our website, and we hope you have a great day.
Note: When you receive the razor for the first time, carefully take it out of the box and remove the oil with a piece of tissue. The razor has already been stropped and it completely "Shave Ready", so go ahead and shave! You will get 2 shaves before needing to strop (depending on how aggressive your beard growth is. Each time you have used your razor, rinse the blade with hot tap water. Carefully and thoroughly dry the blade and in between the scales with a piece of tissue paper before you close it. We recommend to oil your razor after every use. To maintain a sharp cutting edge, strop regularly prior to shaving.
About Boker Manufaktur Solingen:
Since the beginning of the Boker manufacturing plant in 1869, high quality straight razors have been consistently produced in Solingen, Germany. At that time, they were already committed to using nothing but the best of materials, and strived to maintain the highest-quality production standards. With that background their success came quickly, giving Boker straight razors an impeccable international reputation. After World War II, the manufacturing of straight razors gradually came to a stop. Today, an original Boker catalog from 1906 is the oldest document in our archives about the razor blade product line of that time. More than 100 years later, a new lineup began being manufactured in Solingen, reviving the old tradition. Through 170 individual production steps, the new and exclusive Boker straight razors are created. A guarantor for the highest quality is the successful "finger nail test"; only the edge of a perfectly ground blade can be visibly bent on your thumbnail, and return immediately to its original shape when released. Cheap blades are too thick to do this, and for that reason they are referred to as "axes" by the experts.
